The Story

Citrullus lanatus

Days to Maturity: 100

Diné Sweet Watermelon is the quintessential mouth-watering, dripping, juicy watermelon you crave in the summer heat. Pink, sweet flesh with abundant seeds you can save and plant for generations to come. This is a storage watermelon that will keep into the winter. We kept them in the closet and enjoyed our last one on New Years!

We received these seeds from High Desert Seed + Gardens in Montrose, CO. Original seeds sourced from Diné farmers. Also called Navajo Sweet watermelon and Navajo Red Seeded watermelon.

Planting Instructions: Start Diné Watermelon seeds indoors 3-5 weeks before last spring frost and transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed. Or sow directly in the ground in well-draining mounds or rows (3 seeds/mound with mounds spaced 5 feet apart, or seeds spaced 12" apart in rows). Do not overwater.

Seed Saving Instructions: Choose fully ripe, tasty fruits for seed saving. Fully ripe fruits will thud (echo slightly) when knocked. Dry seeds on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approx 15 Diné Origin Sweet Storage Watermelon seeds per packet
