The Story

Capsicum chinense

Days to Maturity: 90-100 from transplant

Looking for a habañero-type pepper with a shorter growing season? Look no further! Hot Paper Lantern Pepper packs some serious heat at 200,000-350,000 Scovilles, or 19-160 times hotter than a jalapeño!! That is even hotter than a typical habañero. In addition, Hot Paper Lantern Peppers can mature fully in northern climates, with a shorter growing season. Fruits are up to 4" long and wrinkled in beautiful red & orange tones. Compact plants are a good choice for container gardens or greenhouses. Delicious Caribbean-sweet taste perfect for kickin' hot sauces, super-hot salsas and chili powder.

Bred by Janika Eckert in the USA. Grown by Groundwork in Paonia, CO.

Planting Instructions: Start Hot Paper Lantern Pepper seeds indoors under lights 3-6 weeks before last spring frost. Transplant after all danger of frost has passed, spaced 2' apart. Keep soil slightly moist but do not overwater. May also be planted in a greenhouse.

Seed Saving Instructions: Use gloves to avoid burning skin! Remove Hot Paper Lantern Pepper seeds from the tastiest, fully mature fruit. Or use a blender with a very low setting-- place fruits with plenty of water and slowly blend. Strain out seeds. Dry seeds on a screen or cloth. Store seeds in a paper or mesh bag in a cool, dark and dry location.

Approx 30 Hot Paper Lantern Pepper seeds per packet
